Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
